What is the Mallory Club?

The Mallory Club has developed from the Friends of Magdalene Boat Club which was itself founded in 1997 to support MBC and create a wider community of boat club alumni. Twenty-five years on, the Mallory Club fosters an interconnected community of MBC alumni who give powerful support to MBC.

In addition to social aspects our alumni crews race under the Mallory Club name, our members wear the Club badge and receive regular Newsletters as well as enjoying priority booking for events such as the Mays Dinner. The Mallory Club continues to grow and is succeeding in reaching out to alumni with whom we have lost contact.

How do we support MBC?

We aim to support MBC both financially and in other ways.

Since formation the Mallory Club has:

  • Subsidised the cost of the annual training camp at Lake Bled in Slovenia

  • Helped buy essential equipment

  • Provided guest coaches from our experienced alumni base

  • Given significant financial support to the annual Mays Marquee

  • Provided MBC T-Shirts for all novice rowers.

  • Organised an annual marquee at Henley Regatta

  • Offered financial support to our men and women selected to represent the University in the Boat Races

  • Arranged discounts for our Members attending the Mays Bump Supper and organised reunion crews attending the May Races

  • Entered on- and off-Cam racing including the Fairbairn Cup, Monster-the Loch and the Town Bumps

Beyond simply the finances, we believe a supportive and rich community will greatly benefit the club. Opportunities to meet alumni through the years have been extremely well received, and some guest coaching on the Cam has had a highly positive impact on the crews and the club.

Become a member of the Mallory Club
